California Education Code

You may find it hard to believe, but the quotation below comes directly from the California Education Code:

"The Legislature finds and declares that a critical dimension of effective schooling is parental involvement. Research indicates that parental involvement in a child' s education improves pupil achievement. The Legislature further finds and declares that school districts and schools, in collaboration with parents, teachers, pupils, and administrators, by establishing and developing proper efforts that enhance parental involvement, are taking a pivotal step in encouraging pupil success."

Those words are also reiterated in the opening lines of Assembly Bill 1348, authored by Assemblyman Alan Mansoor (R-Costa Mesa). This bill seeks to confirm that parent involvement in their children’s education is critical to academic success, and that “the role of parents is primary in the development of their children.”

AB 1348 continues by saying that, because of these facts, the role of parents should be respected “by requiring affirmative parental permission regarding matters of child development, health, and safety.”

However, AB 1348 faces strong opposition from those who believe government can parent better than parents, and may never reach the Assembly floor for a vote.

Another legislative bill attempting to protect women and children is AB 1306. Authored by Assemblyman Tim Donnelly (R-Hesperia) this bill would have required an abortionist to provide every patient with “complete and full information on the potential physiological and psychological impacts of an abortion.”

In addition, AB 1306 would have mandated that the telephone hotline number for the National Human Trafficking Resource Center must be posted in all common areas, including restrooms, where an abortion may be performed.

Unfortunately, AB 1306 did not receive enough votes to pass out of the Assembly’s Health Committee.

Please do all you can to join in this battle to protect children in public education, and in the womb. California Family Council is committed to the protection of life and the authority of parents in the raising of their children, and we can use whatever financial help you can send our way. Thank you.

Also, please take a moment of time to encourage Assemblymen Mansoor and Donnelly, and any others who are standing tall for the right principles, including city councilmen and school board members in your community.  Pray for them, too!

Sincerely,
Ron Prentice
