Christians, Shut Your Mouths

by Ron Prentice,
Chief Executive Officer

Last week in Washington, D.C. a group of six pastors met with Senator Barbara Boxer’s Legislative Director, Sean Moore. Led into this meeting by pastor Jim Domen, the pastors had only one purpose: to pray with Moore for Senator Boxer and her staff. When offered, Moore’s response was “Absolutely not.”

The pastors were stunned, enlightened, and sobered. Although they could have come with a full list of legislative issues that offended their moral foundations, instead they chose simply to come and offer heartfelt prayer. But Boxer’s office would have nothing to do with it.

Upon leaving that office, one of the California pastors then went with his brother, a pastor in Virginia, to offer prayer for a Virginian legislator. But they were turned away from that office, being told, “we strictly enforce the separation of church and state.”

If you’re uninformed about the true meaning of “separation of church and state,” link here. Although some in public office are truly ignorant of the meaning of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment to the US Constitution, most who misstate it do so intentionally, trusting that the repetition of a lie will create a “truth.”

You need go no further than this morning’s news clippings to see the attack on religious speech:

Mentioned earlier, pastor Jim Domen is a member of California Family Council’s staff, serving in strategic outreach to California’s clergy. One of CFC’s primary goals is to keep clergy informed of the cultural and policy issues that encroach upon families in their churches, and free expression from their pulpits.

In a breakfast meeting yesterday morning with pastors, we all agreed: it is children who suffer most when religious liberty is lost, and moral absolutes are forcibly destroyed.

Support your ministers by praying for them. Pray for their courage to stand in the face of the strongest religious oppression this country has ever seen. Verbalize your appreciation for them, and your support as they confront cultural and political lies.

Become better prepared to take a stand for your faith by becoming better informed of God’s perspectives on all areas of life. Attend a Truth Project training seminar for small group leaders, taking place this month in Yucaipa and Mt. Shasta. For more information, link here
