Count Down to a Signing Deadline

by Rebecca Burgoyne,

Complaining about the sheer number of bills on his desk, last month Gov. Jerry Brown, cautioned legislators to prepare to sing the veto blues.  However, with days remaining before the midnight Sunday deadline for him to act on bills passed by the Legislature, the governor has signed 145, vetoed 14, and has approximately 400 to go.  The governor’s signing percentage currently far outpaces the number of bills he has vetoed, and includes several key bills which materialized in the final days of session and were passed outside the light of day with little examination.

With only days before the governor’s October 9 signing deadline, many of the bills tracked by CFC – such as AB 499 (Atkins, D-San Diego and SB 202 (Hancock, D-Oakland), – remain  on the governor’s desk.  You can contact the governor or find more information about any of the bills on his desk tracked by California Family Council, using our convenient online legislative action center.  (On the site, page down to 2011-12 Bills Signed by the Governor.)
