Do Not Grow Weary

by Ron Prentice
Chief Executive Officer

Ten local pastors came together in an area of Orange County this morning. Many of them had not met until today, but soon their discussion turned to working together as the Body of Christ. It was an honor to pray with them, and then to remain afterward for side conversations.

A short list of legislative bills was distributed for the pastors’ information, broken out by the issues of bullying, homosexuality, parental rights, the protection of life, and free speech. It was only a minimal list of the bills we are watching, but it still numbered 18.

Looking over the list, several pastors asked how the CFC team has been able to withstand the disappointment and fatigue that comes with our work. We can respond in all sincerity that we are upheld by God’s response to the prayers of protection from many, many people.

It was kind of them to ask about us, but what about them? How are they doing? When asked this simple question, one pastor was quickly brought to tears. As he spoke, it became clear that his tears came from his heartache over broken marriages and families, his joy over the evidence of spiritual growth in the church, and general weariness. Thank God for leaders like these, for their quality of character and their hearts of compassion.

As you know, California Family Council is committed to building trusted relationships with clergy in every area of our state. Frankly, it is slow going, but we will not be deterred from our goal of a solid coalition of thousands of like-minded pastors, priests, and bishops.

California is in a heap of trouble. Our communications have recently highlighted Senate Bill 48 – attempting to force pro-homosexual content into public education’s social science curriculum. SB 48 passed the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday in a 3-2 party line vote, and will soon go to the Senate floor for a vote, then over to the Assembly for consideration. CFC will continue to inform you of how you can make a difference. There are many other bills that threaten parental rights and religious liberties, not to mention a budget gap that may total $28 billion by next year.

Please pray consistently for your pastors, and let them know you care about them by sending notes of encouragement. Those who are called by God to lead people in Truth play a critically important role in our state’s transformation.

California Family Council’s work is unique, strategic, and worthy of your support. Please consider a financial gift in support of CFC’s work, but most importantly, Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
