Mainstream Homosexuality: Should We Be Surprised?

by Rebecca Burgoyne,

The New York legislature last week voted homosexual marriage into law, making the Empire State the sixth state to create same-sex marriage outside a vote of its people.  Weekend television covered LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) “pride” celebrations from coast to coast.

Should we be surprised?

In our state, while our legislators have slowly, incrementally, added special rights for homosexuals into law, most Californians have been uninformed, apathetic, or unwilling to consider the consequences. Homosexual activists now celebrate that their orientation is gaining acceptance, creeping into our media, our laws, and our schools. While California has thus far prevented the legalization of same-sex marriage, many other “acceptance rights” have flooded our laws and culture.

An example of such legislation is Senate Bill (SB) 48 (Leno, D-San Francisco), that passed the Assembly Education Committee last week on a 7-4 party-line vote.  Although thousands of calls and letters sought the death of SB 48 in this committee, elected representatives acted without regard for the will of the people, and in opposition to the rights of conscience and religious liberty. The entire Assembly will soon vote on SB 48, quickly closing in on the governor’s desk and potentially becoming law.

Throughout the course of man’s history, every period of time has included deceptive teachings. And throughout the course of history a merciful and patient God has asked us to turn from falsehoods and turn to Him. Just as the Apostle Paul entreated the new believers in Ephesus to “redeem the time,” Californians must also recover our heritage from waste, and to improve it for the most valuable of things: the family and children.

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.  Ephesians 5:15-16

Contact your own Assembly member’s office to speak with him or her about the upcoming vote on SB 48 – and the rest of the pro-LGBT legislation – when it comes before them on the Assembly floor.
