Dear Praying Friend,

Thank you for your commitment to pray! The active devotion to seek God’s direct involvement is one of our highest callings, and California Family Council is fortunate to send this Prayer Guide to more than 4,000 people who have pledged to pray for individuals, families, pastors, and leaders.

July brings to mind our country’s birth – 234 years ago, when freedom from Great Britain was proclaimed and defended with the loss of American lives on home soil. Earlier this month, many of us celebrated with fireworks, family gatherings, picnics, and parades. Yet, despite the patriotic festivities, the freedom enjoyed by generations of Americans is slowly being whittled away. Values we hold dear – the sanctity of life, marriage between a man and a woman, and cherished religious liberties – are under attack as never before.

In June 1776, John Adams wrote, “Statesmen, my dear Sir, may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is Religion and Morality alone, which can establish the Principles upon which Freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free Constitution is pure Virtue, and if this cannot be inspired into our people in a greater Measure than they have it now, they may change their Rulers and the forms of Government, but they will not obtain a lasting liberty.”

Fall upon your knees and beseech God Almighty for revival, repentance, and renewal.

“Proclaim LIBERTY throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof.” (Leviticus 25:10, inscribed on the Liberty Bell.)

Please Pray…

·     and praise God for the godly heritage we share as Americans. Pray that Americans would awaken to the threats to their basic freedoms and protect their culture through prayer, involvement, conversation, and by voting wisely in November.

…for the sanctity of marriage

·     for the approaching end of the federal trial in San Francisco challenging the constitutionality of Prop 8. Pray that Judge Walker would competently fulfill his duty to evaluate the arguments presented, without bias

·     and praise God for recent favor in protecting marriage nationwide – by the state Supreme Court in Wisconsin, and the governor’s legislative veto in Hawaii. Pray for continued favor in the courts and legislatures nationwide.

·     for the stoppage of several key bills that negatively impact marriage in the Golden State when legislators return to the Capitol August 2. SB 906, which would create a new class of marriage – “civil” marriage – possibly an incremental precursor to redefining what marriage is, is now on the Assembly floor and can be considered anytime. Several resolutions – that express the Legislature’s pro-homosexual marriage opinion on federal laws – are either on the house floors or on the governor’s desk. Pray that legislators and the governor would seek and receive godly counsel rather than accept politically expedient choices.

…for the protection of life

·     that those involved in the abortion “business” – doctors, nurses, and counselors – would be convicted of the truth about abortion, seek forgiveness, and repent. Pray that an outpouring of God’s Spirit would reverse the tide and lead to the protection of life at all stages.

…for parental authority

·     that parents would take advantage of “lazy days” of summer, vacations, and time away from schools and rigid schedules to purposefully build their values into their children’s lives.

…for California families

·     and praise God that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed SB 1253, legislation that prohibits a paroled sex offender from living within half a mile from a minor victim. Pray for other commendable child protection proposals that will be considered in fiscal committees in August.

·     that families will take advantage of the opportunity to visit legislators on their home turf this month. Pray, too, that legislators will listen with open minds to their constituents, who make an effort to communicate with them. Pray that legislators will reconnect with constituents, find refreshment, and discover truth – not the lies of special interests.

·     that legislation contrary to the beliefs of traditional families would meet the proverbial “budget axe” in fiscal committees, which will be meeting prior to mid-August. With the budget deadline passed, pray that legislators would be open to consider family-friendly solutions, instead of holding the line to please unions and other special interests.

·     for legislators and their staffs during the final legislative push that begins August 2. Pray they will act with integrity and honesty in completing this legislative session.

…for California Family Council

·     for CFC’s continued efforts to serve God in 2010 by transforming the laws and culture of California. Please pray for the income necessary to fulfill what God desires of CFC.

·     that Californians will be exposed to a true biblical worldview. Pray for opportunities for the expansion of the message and lessons in Focus on the Family’s The Truth Project – and TrueU – in our state and nation. Pray for CFC’s upcoming leadership training events – August 21 in Pasadena and August 28 in Roseville.

“Forever, O Lord, thy word is firmly fixed in the heavens. Thy faithfulness endures to all generations; thou hast established the earth, and it stands fast.” – Psalms 119:89-90
