Proverbial Truth

by Ron Prentice,
Chief Exceutive Officer

California Family Council will be making our financial needs known more often as we approach the end of calendar year 2011. This is the time of year when many of our friends give generously and are also helped by non-taxable deductions. A month ago I informed you of a $50,000 challenge grant, pledged by a couple who hopes that you, too, might be more motivated to support CFC by their generous endorsement. Special thanks to all who have responded with a financial gift!  CFC is especially in need of charitable help at this time. To make a secure, online donation, click here.

Proverbial Truth - Proverbs 11:19-21

Entertainment Weekly (EW) has revealed that this week’s primetime network show Glee! will feature two scenes of teens losing their virginity: a heterosexual and a homosexual couple. The EW writer is absolutely giddy about it. He calls the episode “one of [the] best installments ever,” and “incredibly moving.”

In other television news, late night talk-show host Conan O’Brien this week officiated the televised wedding of one of his male staffers to another man. With same-sex marriage now legal in New York, O’Brien was licensed as a minister (for a day) by the Universalist Church. Brief vows were exchanged, O’Brien pronounced them to the audience as “husband and husband,” the two men locked lips for a while, and the live audience stood to its feet in celebration.

Last week, research was released stating that 28% of primetime television shows feature homosexual characters. It should therefore not surprise us that in some surveys, people believe that up to 25% of the U.S. population is homosexual. The truth is, the 2010 census states that less than 2% of Americans are homosexual.

And how are these characters portrayed? They are the brightest and most humorous, they do not struggle with sexual diseases or addictions, they are seldom portrayed with gender-confused mannerisms, and almost always these characters practice committed monogamy. All of these portrayals are deceptive means to an end: more legal rights.

This week, California Family Council has brought truth - and strategic awareness - speaking to groups of clergy, lay people, and attorneys. It was so encouraging to see 150 pastors at an event co-sponsored by Family Research Council, Calvary Chapel Chino Hills, and CFC. I challenged them to tell me how they think both sexual liberty and religious liberty can co-exist in law. It can’t be done, and as the homosexual lobby continues its press for special classification as a minority group requiring special protections, the first amendment’s guarantee of free speech will be trounced.
