AMERICAN CANYON – Last week’s regular city council meeting drew a standing-room only crowd. After heated discussion, a proposed resolution that would have put the city council on record as opposed to “discrimination in any form, including with regard to gender in marriage,” was tabled indefinitely. (emphasis added) One Proposition 8 supporter said, “I get my world view from the Bible. American Canyon residents voted for Prop. 8 by a wide margin and this resolution doesn’t speak for the majority.” Read more in the Times-Herald
 
COVINA – Students at Royal Oak Middle School were able to promote and celebrate the National Day of Prayer (NDP) last week due to the involvement of attorneys from the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF). School officials originally toldstudents in the Spiritual Place of Teens (or SPOT) club they must change the name of their celebration to the “National Day of Reflection” and could not advertise on campus. Read more in ADF’s press release.
 
CASTRO VALLEY – Learning from their children that a lesbian minister had recently spoken to math and science classes at Castro Valley High School, parents seeking information about the visit were stone-walled by district officials. More than 20 parents, with the aid of the Pacific Justice Institute (PJI), have sued the district to compel the release of the information. Read more in a PJI press release.
 
SAN BERNARDINO – A group of pro-life advocates with the group Survivors have been found not guilty on charges resulting from a 2007 incident in which the group was limited to a tiny area when they visited Chaffey College to peacefully hold signs and hand out pro-life literature. Read more on LifeNews.com.
